Step1: Place the book you are repairing with the front cover face down on the desk. Open the book by opening only the back cover. Using a sharp instrument, cut the spine away from the back cover by slicing through the end papers and into the "valley" of the cover. The cover will fall away from the spine.
Step 2:  Remove old material,i.e. brown paper or any old glue left behind.  You do not need to remove it all.  You will however, want to remove enough of the old material so tht the glue strip you are about to place in there will be able to get into your book pages.

Step 3:      Cut a glue strip for the exact width and 1 1/2" shorter than the length of your spine. IMPORTANT--The strip needs to be shorter than your length on your spine to prevent the glue from seeping out the ends of your book during the heating cycle! If your spine is wider than one glue strip, cut another glue strip to fit to ensure complete coverage.

Step 4:      Center the glue strip(s) on the spine of your book.

Step 5:      Place the book in the machine for 1 minute 45 seconds. After 1 minute and 15 seconds, start firmly pushing sheets down inthe the glue using only your fingertips. You are this to realizn the sheets in the hardcover.

Step 6:      After 1 minute and 45 seconds have elapsed, remove the book from the machine and place the book SPINE DOWN on the cooling rack for 15 minutes.
Do not open the book during the cool-down process!
